A short 5 minute task enables each student to recall previous learning and then apply it to an unseen text (a skill we know they need for their exam). What’s more is that these tasks also tie in quite nicely with ‘cultural capital’. Any teacher I’m sure anywhere will be aware of its importance and focus within the new OFSTED framework, and Edusites manage to embed it throughout their tasks and lessons.
Considering how media production shapes audience attitudes and behaviour -to have developed the knowledge and learning to how compare products from different times with an understanding of what those times were like. An awareness that there are values contained in products to do with attitudes towards different groups of people and these can be seen in how different groups are represented or under-represented. To have studied similar types of products (as indicated as best practice/essential in the exam board guidance) in order to consider how the set exam products reflect generic ideas, the conventions of such products and the audiences that consume them. An understanding of the media industry and institutions –the intentions of these producers of mass media products and the attempts to control and regulate these.

As a teacher with more than a quarter of a century of experience, I have often had parents tell me they feel like they have 20+ GCSEs as they have taken the journey through exams so closely with their children. At Edusites we believe that parental input and constructive conversations about what is being learned is invaluable. A membership to Edusites helps you to sidestep the nagging to ‘get on with revision’ to engage with some of the content. Parents involvement can invigorate learning, not just while ‘revision is happening’ but also at the dinner table, with their friends or the drive to and from school.
Studying Media and or Film What job can I get? Getting a job in the media or film industries is difficult. It’s a popular career choice among graduates, which means competition for positions is fierce and getting that full-time job could involve weeks, or even months, of unpaid work experience. Then, when you do actually draw a salary, you could find yourself on short-term contracts for a while. While a media degree will give you an insight into the industry, you won’t necessarily find yourself better placed to get a job than someone with an English or history degree, so you’ll need to apply for placements during your summer holidays, pitch story ideas to papers or magazines, or get a job as a runner for a TV company to put something a little extra on your CV. However, graduates do find opportunities in the broader jobs market, including in publishing, marketing, advertising, and teaching.
Once a week our Edusites Media teachers let loose and give us their 'real talk' on studying GCSE & A Level Media. They discuss trending issues, the industry, products, theory, revision and exams.
