The Edusites programme of study for A Level Media

The Edusites programme of study for A Level Media has been designed to provide a Core Unit for each term to help students develop the right level of knowledge and understanding of the key critical approaches and all the framework concepts of narrative, genre, representations, and spectatorship.

Our A Level Units begin at Unit 7 with a + so that there is clear progression if your institution also uses our GCSE Media Studies Units 1-6.

The four areas of this theoretical framework, are:

  • Media Language: how the media through their forms, codes and conventions communicate meanings
  • Representation: how the media portray events, issues, individuals and social groups
  • Media Industries: how the media industries’ processes of production, distribution and circulation affect media forms and platforms
  • Audiences: how media forms target, reach and address audiences, how audiences interpret and respond to them, and how members of audiences become producers themselves

Each Unit and section has the following materials for learning:

  • A Teacher Scheme of Learning (SOL)
  • Online Slides to be projected for the whole class to see
  • A Student Workbook and Supporting Images (can be cut and pasted from the online page into a booklet and printed for the students to work from.)

Lesson structure*

  1. A loop activity, related to the lesson and the learning to be done (a loop because the work of the session will be to close that loop)
  2. A preparation of the learning, a construction of the learning to enable access for all
  3. A main section of applying (the doing) of the learning
  4. A traffic light plenary
*The structure has been OFSTED and LEA inspected many times, and the learning always graded outstanding.
