Lesson 1: The Section B Close Study Products

Starter/Loop Activity (5 minutes)

Prepare the Learning (5 minutes)

Share the objectives. Remind students of the objectives we are working towards meeting, and that this unit is designed to help them prepare for the two papers of the examination and their NEA. All skills and strategies are transferable.

Construct the Learning (25 minutes)

Slide 4 Where we are within the course of study.

Slide 5 Review their knowledge of the set products and how the Paper 2 Section B products are to be studied. Take time to go over the requirements and the strategies required by the exam board in responding to the set products in this section. Stress that the purpose in these lessons is guidance and strategies to enable them to start to apply acquired learning and understanding of the theoretical models from the rest of the Media course.

Slides 6-8 Outline the AQA guidance for these products.

Slides 9-10 Introduce the guidance for required area of study.

Slides 11-13 Outline some ideas of Zoella as a study product. They will need to undertake their own research. Here we identify ideas, strategies to work through.

Slide 14 Task 1B The verbal codes are explored with examples. Use the scaffold of learning prompts.

Slide 15 Task 1C The semiotic codes are explored with examples. Use the scaffold of learning prompts.

Slide 16 Offers some ideas for research into her relationship with her followers. Indicate that they need to explore this for themselves as research or home learning task.

Application of Learning (20 minutes: class and individual work)
