Edusites units are a three-tiered learning approach including Online Lesson-by-Lesson Slides and the Teacher Scheme of Learning and Student workbook which are interlinked – each is dependent on the other and should be used together to provide students and teachers with an in-depth learning experience.
Starter/Loop Activity(5 minutes)
Slide 2 Task 3A Pupils asked to respond to the task from the Lesson Resource analysis of Tarzan Film Poster product. Students to write response in books/folders.
Prepare the Learning(5 Minutes)
Slide 3 Share the objectives. Remind students of the objectives we are working towards meeting. Deal with any issues from last sessions heavy work on the key elements film posters or the discussions based on them. We will be focusing on the students learning How to apply their knowledge to the exam tasks to demonstrate their understanding. Go over the OCR rationale for the selection of The Lego Movie as a set product for study Slide 4/5.
Construct the Learning (10 Minutes)
Remind of the way that we can start exploring the set products by applying the knowledge and learning acquired in Unit 1 Media Language. You might need some time here to revisit and review some of the slides and learning from last lesson or – if set for home learning – to respond to the tasks set. Slide 39-43 This session is the basic details of the Lego Movie promotion and marketing. Tell students that they need to conduct active research of their own to supplement this information. This is only as a basic run through with the objective of modelling how we can use research.
Application of Learning (30 Minutes pair/feedback to class/individual work)
Slide 11 Task 3B requires a use of research material on the campaign. Students are offered some options for research as well as the two modelled examples, each with a series of suggested questions to ask of such material. They need to understand that they must interrogate and then select and apply relevant details, not simply cut and paste. Task 3C Slide 14 models how to do this. They must be able to manipulate relevant details. The suggestion (which I apply to my own groups) is to work as a pair so that study buddies ideas can be used.
Plenary/Closing the Loop (10 Minutes feedback to class by individuals)
Slide 15 Another longer feedback here, but we need to check the learning as thoroughly as possible here – lapses in concentration or acquisition at early stages will create massive issues further on. At the very least we need them all confident in applying the skills acquired in Unit 1 Media Language.
Starter/Loop Activity (5 minutes)
Task 4A Slide 2 Pupils asked to respond to the task from the Lesson resource analysis of Lego Movie Poster. Students to write response in books/folders.
Prepare the Learning (5 Minutes)
Slide 3 Share the objectives. Revisit terms/issues/ideas from previous lesson’s learning as is deemed necessary from the previous plenary feedback. Q/A on loop activity. Students ought to be beginning to be able to offer much deeper reasoning for the selections that they make – target questioning according to ability/expectations/challenge. Expect them to be able to engage much more deeply with ideas. Push that they are transferring the ideas from last session to the current tasks and developing their ideas and levels of understanding. This booklet is to support you in your preparation for the OCR GCSE Media Studies Examination Papers 1 and 2 and the Non-Examination Assessment. This notebook comprises the theory and ideas from the related series of lessons led by your teacher, and is designed to help you to start thinking a little more clearly about the content and requirements involved in studying this subject.
All of the framework concepts in GCSE Media Studies – Media Language, Representation, Audience, Institutions and Values – are linked and interact with each other to produce meaning. Whilst each unit has a focus it will touch into other areas (usually indicated in the Lesson Slides) and will be revisited in their work in the other units.
Edusites cover a wide selection of OCR GCSE Media Studies specified Set Study Products for 2019 examination. The study of the media for GCSE involves a solid understanding of how the media industry and its range of institutions construct media products that communicate messages to their audiences about the world we live in and our place within it.
