What are Edusites?

Edusites are edu(cational) (web)sites. In 2007 Richard Gent, a Media and English teacher, started to develop an online collection of GCSE and A Level Media resources to support his own teaching via an educational website called MediaEdu. At that time there was a shortage of material and support for non-core subjects such as Media and Film and teachers often worked in isolation. Through networking, other teachers began to look at and share the resources that were published on MediaEdu. Developing teaching and learning resources takes time and making them available to others saves time and shares excellent practice.

As interest grew, Richard became more passionate about this concept and how it could benefit the wider teaching community. He decided to leave full-time teaching and devote his time to developing resources. He created Edusites to build an online resources library which evolved into Edusites English, Edusites Film and Edusites Media. The Edusites Forum was created to allow teachers to communicate with each other.

Richard’s goal was to produce only the highest quality resources, therefore a subscription system was introduced to enable him to commission outstanding teachers and subject specialists to create the best teaching and learning materials for Edusites. We need to pay for the work that enables each generation of teachers and students to excel.

The vision remains the same at Edusites today where Richard and his team work with heads of department, examiners and other experts to bring outstanding resources to over 1200 schools in the UK.
